Nicole Kidman Reveals the Simple Reason for Her Oscars ‘Seal Clap’

This year’s Academy Awards ceremony was a weird one for many reasons, one of the main ones being Kidman’s really bizarre clap. Thankfully, the actress has now given an explanation for her distinctive show of appreciation at the show, and it makes a lot of sense.

But now, the 49-year-old Oscar winner has finally explained her viral moment in a phone interview on The Kyle and Jackie O Show.

“It was really awkward,” the Big Little Lies star said. “I was like, gosh, I want to clap. I don’t want to not be clapping – which would be worse, right? “‘Why isn’t Nicole clapping?'”

“So therefore I’m clapping, but it was really difficult because I had a huge ring on that was not my own but was absolutely gorgeous. And I was terrified of damaging it!”
In fact, the actress wore more than 119 carats of Harry Winston diamonds for the event, including her pear-shaped diamond cluster ring and a vintage 1963 diamond bracelet. That is a lot of bling!
Nicole is shocked her “seal-clapping” has become such a major talking point, and she is convinced there are far more other interesting issues to focus on than the weird way she was applauding at the Oscars.

“It’s like, ‘I there not more important things to be focused on than the seal clap?'” she mused.
