BIZARRE 'AMERICAN PSYCHO' MUSICAL ON THE WAY

Literally everything is getting turned into a musical these days – from 'The Alan Titchmarsh Story' to 'Leona Lewis Sings The Prose Of Gary Bushell', there's not a single cultural reference point that won't be transformed pretty soon into a West End smash.

Bearing that it mind, it's still fairly surprising that a bunch of theatre companies are joining forces to make 'American Psycho – The Musical.' That's 'American Psycho', folks – the 1991 Bret Easton Ellis novel which is both a vitriolic assault on greed-fuelled Wall Street culture and a genuinely sickening assortment of bloody attacks on women as carried out by the deranged misogynist lead character.

That should get 'em singing in the aisles, shouldn't it?

The stage version of this family favourite will apparently feature "original 1980s-inspired songs and familiar covers of hits from the era", with the producers hopeful that they can acquire the rights to songs by Genesis and Huey Lewis And The News.

WTF? – as if the horrific violence wasn't bad enough, theatre-goers are going to have grit their teeth through a rendition of 'Invisible Touch'. It's all too much, it really is.

No casting details or launch date have been revealed, although you can bet your coke-powdered bottom dollar that this is going to be a controversial enterprise. At least until it gets overshadowed by 'Texas Tunesaw Massacre: Singalong With Leatherface' anyway.
